Alleged rebel slain in Camarines Sur clash

LEGAZPI CITY — An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a clash with the government forces in San Fernando town in Camarines Sur on Friday morning, Aug. 2.

Brigadier General Andre Dizon, Bicol police chief, said in a report that while the members of the Philippine Army and the police were conducting combat strike operations, they figured in a 45-minute firefight with 19 NPA rebels in Barangay Tagpocol at 6:22 a.m.

Dizon said the unidentified slain rebel was a member of Kilusang Larangang Guerilla 1 and Platoon 3 of the Sub-Regional Committee under Nancy Ortega, alias “Lilay.”

The state forces recovered three M16 rifles, two M653 rifles, and one M203 grenade launcher at the clash site.

They were conducting checkpoint operations in these areas. INQ
