MANILA, Philippines — The Ateneo de Manila Grade School (AGS) opened its doors for the first time on Thursday for girls after being exclusive to boys for nearly 165 years.
In a Facebook post, AGS said that 200 girls are currently enrolled in Kindergarten and Grade 1.

“History was made today, August 1, as Ateneo de Manila Grade School welcomed girls in Kindergarten and Grade 1 for the first time in our school’s nearly 165-year history,” the post read.

Ateneo de Manila Junior High also accepted female enrollees in Grade 7 for the school year 2024-2025.
According to the Ateneo Admissions, all levels in Basic Education from Kindergarten to Grade 12 will be fully co-educational by the school year 2029-2030.
