LUCENA CITY — Malacañang has declared Aug. 20 a special non-working holiday in this capital city of Quezon province to mark its 63rd Charter Day anniversary.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Lucena be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and celebrate,” stated Proclamation No. 640, issued on July 29, and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

The city public information office posted on Wednesday a copy of the proclamation on social media.

Lucena became a chartered city on June 17, 1961, by Republic Act No. 3271 sponsored by the late Quezon Rep. Manuel Enverga.

However, the local government celebrates the occasion every 20th of August to commemorate its formal inauguration as a city on August 20, 1962.
