BACOLOD CITY — A principal is in critical condition after he fell from the roof of an elementary school building in Moises Padilla town, Negros Occidental on Sunday, July 28.
Reynaldo Mojares, 60, principal 1 at the Guinpana-an Elementary School, is now in the intensive care unit of the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City, said Arnold Arnaez, spokesperson of the Department of Education (DepEd) Negros Occidental Schools Division, on Tuesday.
Mojares, his wife, and other teachers went to the Guinpana-an Elementary School on Sunday for a last-minute cleaning for the start of classes the next day.
“The principal at about 5 p.m. saw a lot of leaves on the roof of a school building and climbed a ladder to remove them,” Arnaez said.
However, Mojares slipped as no one was holding the ladder and hit his head.
His spine was also affected, Arnaez said.
Mojares’ colleagues have donated money to help pay his medical bills.
Mojares had been planning to retire in December or January, Arnaez said.
