6:45 p.m. – Lion Tiger-USJ-R vs. San Marino-USPF
The San Marino Corned Tuna-University of Southern Philippines Panthers sizzled in the fourth period and got ample production from veterans Fritz Dajalos and James Ferraren to defeat the Gaisano Tisa-University of Cebu Webmasters, 79-72, in the quarterfinals of the 6th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Partner’s Cup yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
San Marino now owns a 1-1 record in this stage of the tournament while Gaisano fell to 0-2, endangering their chances of making the semifinals. The team with the worst record in the quarterfinals will get the boot.
San Marino pulled away when it mattered the most as they unleashed a huge 16-3 blast after a 58-all deadlock that gave them the lead for good.
Dajalos and Ferraren roasted Gaisano’s defense in that stretch as they connived to score 14 points.
Rommel Diapera paced the winners with 17 while Dajalos and Ferraren combined for 23 points.
In spite playing with just four players in the third, the Webmasters kept the game close, 55-56, as they withstood the 17-point explosion of USPF’s rookie Diapera in that span.
The game was tied for the last time at 58-apiece when Dajalos scored at will from the inside with his patented floaters and fadeaway jumpers.
