FCIC wins opener in Interclub football

The Hiroshi Football Club started its men’s open title-retention bid on a low note after losing its first match to FCIC, 2-3, yesterday in the 12th Cebu Interclub Football Cup held simultaneously in the football fields of the University of San Carlos Technological Center, San Roque and Paref Springdale.

Hiroshi FC looked headed to a good start when Rogelio Castellon Jr. exploded with a goal just 40 seconds into the match.

FCIC scored the equalizer courtesy of Robert Sete in the 19th minute.

Hiroshi FC was not to be outdone with John Rey Nieves giving his team a 2-1 lead in the 28th minute.

An own goal by Hiroshi FC allowed FCIC to tie the game at 2-all.

The own goal was committed when John Michael Flores headed a back pass but the goalie was out of position.

FCIC took the win on an 80th minute goal by Kenny Sete.

The other match in the men’s open played at the USC-TC saw San Roque Football Club defeating Don Bosco United FC, 3-1.

In the 40 Above, ERCO FC posted its first win with a 2-1 edging of Queen City United A.

Also drawing first blood in the boys 17 were Springdale FC, who inflicted a 9-0 thrashing of University of San Carlos North Campus; Abellana National School (ANS)-Pomeroy, who drubbed Mandaue Technical Institute, 3-1; and Cebu team, who routed San Carlos Warriors, 7-0.

ANS-Pomeroy faltered in the boys 14 after bowing to Canduman FC, 0-2. The other match in the category saw Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) demolishing SJSM/3 Brothers, 8-1.
