Rain or Shine beats Alaska, 113-97, to halt four-game skid
MANILA, Philippines – A slumping Rain or Shine pounced on an import-less Alaska, 113-97, to halt a 4-game slide Friday in the 36th PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
Import Hassan Adams and Beaue Begla threw their weight around as they banged in 22 and 20 points respectively for the Elastopainters, who went on a slump after a 3-0 opening at the start of the conference.
The Aces, whose import LD Williams was meted a one-game suspension after a flagrant-two foul against Meralco last week, simply had no answer to the burly Adams.
But even against Rain or Shine’s second unit, Alaska was still outplayed as the Elastopainters built a whopping 21-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter.
“We actually expected a hard game even w/o an import. Our worry was if they try to hang out in the end game, that’s what we were trying to avoid,” said Elastopainters head coach Yeng Guiao.
Both teams are gunning for a spot in the quarterfinals as the Aces dropped to 5-3 and the Elastopainters improved to 4-4.
