Residents near Olongapo River told to evacuate due to heavy rainfall

OLONGAPO CITY — Residents near a river in this city were advised to evacuate as it breached its banks around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24.

Data from the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) showed that the water level in the river flowing beneath Del Rosario, Sta. Rita and Kalaklan Bridge reached three meters.

In its 8 a.m. advisory, the DRRMO reported that 15 to 30 millimeters of rainfall had been observed in the city over the past hour, with continued rain expected for the next two hours.

Several villages in the city were flooded, and the high tide at 11:13 a.m. was expected to worsen the situation. INQ
