MANILA, Philippines — Classes in parts of Luzon were suspended on Wednesday, July 24, due to the heavy rains from Typhoon Carina (International name: Gaemi) and the southwest monsoon.

The Presidential Communications Office announced that work in government offices and classes at all levels in Metro Manila are suspended due to the inclement weather.

According to the weather bulletin released by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration on Wednesday morning, Carina further intensified and may reach its peak intensity before making landfall in Taiwan.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised over Batanes.

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 is still hoisted over Babuyan Islands, the northern portion of mainland Cagayan (Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Camalaniugan, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Santa Ana, Gonzaga) and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Adams)
