Flood hits Metro Manila roads on Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines — Gutter to knee-high floods affected a number of roads in Metro Manila on Wednesday due to heavy rains, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). 

As of 6:31 a.m., the following roads were submerged in an 8 to 19-inch deep flood, based on MMDA’s advisory:

City of Manila

Quezon City

Pasay City

Makati City

 

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s 5 a.m. bulletin, Typhoon Carina was last spotted some 290 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, moving northwest at 25 kilometers per hour (kph), with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph. 

It also enhanced the southwest monsoon or “habagat”, which is expected to bring moderate to intense rainfall in the western part of Luzon from Wednesday to Friday.
