MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Tuesday that 455 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers in Southern Tagalog and Bicol ports were stranded due to the effects of Typhoon Carina.
Observing ports from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., the maritime safety advisory released on Viber stated that the “PCG monitored 455 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers; 26 vessels; 7 motorbancas; and 70 rolling cargoes STRANDED, while 2 vessels and 20 motorbancas TAKING SHELTER in Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions due to #CarinaPH.”
The PCG said that 20 motorbancas and two vessels were taking shelter while 287 passengers, drivers, and helpers; 13 vessels; 41 rolling cargoes; and six motorbancas were stranded in the following ports in Southern Tagalog:
- Tilik Port
- San Jose Port
- Romblon Port
- San Agustin Port
- Port of San Andres
- Real Port
- Polilo Port
Meanwhile, 168 passengers, drivers, and helpers; 13 vessels, 29 rolling cargoes; and one motorbanca were stranded in these Bicol ports:
- Port of Pasacao
- Aroroy Port
- Mobo Port
- Masbate City Port
- San Pascual Port
- Bulan Port
Carina is forecast to move northwestward on Tuesday before moving northwestward on Wednesday. It remains far from the landmass and is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday, Pagasa added.
