4 teens killed in car crash

An accident inside an exclusive subdivision in Muntinlupa City Saturday morning claimed the lives of four teenagers.

Policemen identified the victims as Thomas Eric Nguyen, 16; Bruce Garcia, 14; Timothy Syyap, 18; and his brother Joshua, 15, all residents of Ayala Alabang Village.

Based on an initial investigation conducted by SPO1 Henry Sayson of the Muntinlupa police, the four were in a Hyundai Elantra (TOQ 397) when the car crash took place at around 4 a.m. Saturday.

“They were traversing Acacia Avenue inside the subdivision, heading northward, when they suddenly hit an [electrical] post at the corner of Acacia and Guijo Streets,” the policeman told the Inquirer in a phone interview.

He added that the vehicle was running  “quite fast” when it hit the post based on a check of the footage taken by security cameras posted in the area.

After hitting the electrical post, the vehicle rammed the concrete fence of a nearby house.

“The impact was so strong that the car was a total wreck and the victims were thrown out of the vehicle. We found them [lying on] the road,” he said.

The crash also damaged the concrete fence and a village road sign.

The four victims were immediately taken to Asian Hospital for treatment where three of them were pronounced dead on arrival. The fourth died due to severe head and body injuries several hours later.

The police official said that they were still trying to determine who was driving the car at the time of the accident.

Also under investigation was the cause of the crash as well as if any of the victims were drunk.

“There was no witness when the [accident] happened so we will be looking at the car, the medical report of the victims and other pieces of evidence to establish what caused the accident,” he added.
