Suspect in dance slay held

BOHOL—Police on Thursday arrested a construction worker in Catigbian, Bohol province, for the killing of a son of Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura on May 13.

Jay Boy Lauron, 28, admitted he shot Carl Vinson Apura following an altercation on the dance floor in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar.

Lauron, a resident of Barangay Carreta in Cebu City, said he went to Valladolid to visit his relatives. The village held a benefit dance for its fiesta on May 12.

Lauron said he was dancing with his friends when a stranger angrily challenge him to a gun duel.

“He was envious of my dancing. He challenged me to a gun duel,” he said.

Lauron admitted he was intoxicated during the confrontation.

Scared that he would be shot first, Lauron said he took out his firearm and shot the victim in the head.

He fled to Catigbian town where police caught up with him. Chief Insp. Teodulo Mantad, Carcar police chief, said Lauron tried to flee. Chito O. Aragon, Inquirer Visayas
