MANILA, Philippines—A light-cargo plane carrying live fish from Busuanga Island in Palawan made a rough landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Saturday morning, but no one was hurt and no flights were disrupted.
Joseph Agustin, Manila International Airport Authority’s safety division officer, said the Piper single-engine aircraft’s landing gear collapsed as it touched down on Runway 13 around 9:45 a.m.
“Its nose gear suddenly retracted while the plane was taxiing toward the general aviation area, forcing the plane’s nose to hit the runway,” Agustin said.
The pilot of the fish cargo aircraft, operated by CM Aero, was unhurt and was forced to leave the aircraft in the middle of the runway.
MIAA’s fire, medical and safety teams responded to the accident and immediately worked on removing the disabled aircraft from the runway.
Agustin said no flights were affected by the incident as it only took airport personnel 20 minutes to clear the aircraft from the runway.
An investigation team from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines’ Aircraft Accident Investigation Board is now inspecting the aircraft to determine the cause of the accident.
