MANILA, Philippines — Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian expressed his disappointment on Saturday over Bamban Mayor Alice Guo’s non-appearance in a Senate probe.

According to Gatchalian, Guo as an elected official should give respect to the Philippines’ laws.

“Very disappointed. I am disappointed that she went into hiding and is avoiding the law,” Gatchalian said in a radio interview in DWIZ 882.

“She was not removed from her post so she is currently a duly-elected official so she should respect the law because she was elected by the people,” he added.

The senator also said that Guo’s recent posts on her Facebook page appear to deflect the current issues against her.

“The real issue here is her lies and the telling of the truth, that’s the real issue. And in her posts, she appears to deflect or shift the issue,” he added.

In a statement on Thursday, Guo claimed that Gatchalian and Senator Risa Hontiveros were “fixated” on her.

However, Hontiveros said that Guo’s social media posts were not equal to a Senate hearing attendance.

On July 13, the Senate issued an arrest order for Guo, some of her family members, and others for non-attendance in a Senate hearing investigating illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators.
