LUCENA CITY – A pedestrian died while five motorists, including a 7-year-old boy, were injured in separate road accidents in Quezon province on Friday night, according to the police.
The Quezon provincial police reported on Saturday, that truck helper John Lloyd Meneses was accidentally hit by a passing pick-up truck while he was crossing Maharlika Highway in Barangay Balubad in Atimonan town around 7 p.m.
Meneses sustained fatal body injuries and died on the way to hospital.
In Lucena City, a tricycle driven by Alvin Resuma, 41, was hit by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Andrei Roy Cayno, 21, in a section of the by-pass road in Barangay Bocohan around 6:45 p.m.
The tricycle driver and two passengers, Hesusa Mancenido, 54, and Cecille Triña, 43, were thrown off the vehicle.
The three victims were rushed by rescuers to Quezon Medical Center in the city proper for treatment.
Police said the SUV avoided the debris of the ongoing road construction and occupied the opposite lane which led to the collision.
In neighboring Sariaya town, motorcyclist Joven Zarsuela, 30, with his back-rider and son, Jaslean, 7, occupied the opposite lane and consequently collided with ab oncoming minibus driven by Diomedes Alcantara along the provincial road in Barangay Morong around 6:20 p.m., the police said.
The father and son sustained injuries and were brought to a hospital in Lucena City for treatment.
The report did not state whether or not the victims were wearing crash helmets, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
All parties in the three accidents are open to an amicable settlement, police said.
