MANILA, Philippines — A call center agent was arrested by Parañaque City police on Friday for the alleged rape and extortion of a teenager he met on a dating app.
At around 1:30 a.m., authorities arrested the 25-year-old man only identified as Edward, according to Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.
Abalos, in an ambush interview at about 3:00 a.m. on Facebook live, said the 19-year-old female student met the suspect through an online dating application.
The Southern Police District (SPD), in another statement on Friday, said: “After establishing contact, the suspect allegedly raped the victim and subsequently demanded large sums of money in exchange for not posting sensitive photographs of her online.
“Upon receipt of the information, SPD SOU (special operations unit) orchestrated an entrapment operation, in collaboration with the victim and her father that later led to the suspect’s apprehension,” the SPD further said.
The suspect is now under the custody of authorities.
Abalos said the phone of the suspect was seized, adding that the phone contained other videos of naked people.
“They will all be contacted, all of these are under investigation,” Abalos said in Filipino of those in the videos.
