MANILA, Philippines — An earthquake of 4.6 magnitude struck a Surigao del Sur town on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The state seismologist initially recorded a 5.2 magnitude quake at the epicenter located 57 kilometers east of Marihatag, Surigao Del Sur. But it later lowered it to 4.6 magnitude at the same epicenter.
The tectonic earthquake happened at 1:39 p.m. and was measured to have a depth of focus of 11 kilometers.

Phivolcs said it does not expect the temblor to result in aftershocks and damage to properties.
Based on Phivolcs’ data, the earthquake had the following reported intensities:
Intensity I: Tagbina, Surigao del Sur
Intensity II: Lingig, Surigao del Sur
Intensity III: Butuan City; Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
Intensity IV: Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
It also said that its scales recorded Instrumental Intensity I in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, and Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.
