MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Thursday said that she resigned as education secretary for personal reasons and that First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos had nothing to do with her decision.

“No,” Duterte said when asked if the first lady had something to do with her resignation.

“The first lady has nothing to do with my job working with President Marcos,” she added in Filipino.

Duterte, who announced her resignation last month, said she did it due to “personal reasons”, among others.

The rift between Duterte and the first lady was bared after the latter admitted snubbing the former in several instances

The vice president’s attendance during her father and former President Rodrigo Duterte’s prayer rally, where he called Marcos “bangag” (a slang for “high on drugs”), drew the ire of the first lady.
