Cavite City mayor appeals for help for 3,300 fire victims

LUCENA CITY — Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua is calling for donations to more than 900 families who were left homeless Sunday after a fire of unknown origin ravaged two coastal villages in the area.

“For those who wish to send help, our evacuation sites are at Dalahican Elementary School and Sta. Cruz Elementary School,” Chua appealed in a post on his Facebook page.

The fire started about 3 p.m. along Badjao, Alonzo St. spreading to Barangays 5 and 7 and destroying more than 900 houses before it was extinguished three hours later, the Cavite police reported.

The fire affected more than 3,300 individuals, who were temporarily housed at the two public schools and attended to by local social welfare officers.

Investigators reported no casualties or serious injuries.

Firemen were still investigating the cause of the blaze. Property damage has yet to be determined by authorities.
