LUCENA CITY – A magnitude 4.3 earthquake jolted Calatagan, Batangas early Monday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the earthquake of tectonic origin struck at 12:59 a.m. Its epicenter was traced some 18 kilometers southwest of Calatagan.
It had a depth of focus of 90 km.
Phivolcs said the tremor is not expected to cause damage or aftershocks.
Calatagan town is 71 kilometers from Batangas City and 129 kilometers from Metro Manila.
Batangas is one of the most seismically active areas in the Philippines, generated mainly by the Lubang Fault, located between Mindoro Island and Batangas.
