Pagasa: Cloudy, rainy Friday; Watch out for floods and landslides

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau on Friday warned of possible floods and landslides in some parts of the country due to southwest monsoon-induced rains.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio, in an early morning bulletin, said the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” is forecast to affect Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Western Visayas, and Mindanao.

Partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms are expected in the rest of Visayas and Luzon, including Metro Manila

(The southwest monsoon is affecting the western portion of Southern Luzon up to Mindanao. The effects of the southwest monsoon will continue until tomorrow.)

(The public must be vigilant. Occasional heavy rains that may cause flooding or landslides are expected.)

Aurelio also reported that Pagasa is monitoring cloud clusters outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

“Binabantayan po namin yan [kung] posible pong may mabuong low pressure area,” he said.

(We are monitoring if it will develop into a low-pressure area.)
