MANILA, Philippines — The selection of the Philippines to host the Loss and Damage Fund (LDF) Board shows confidence in the country’s commitment to its moves against climate change, the Climate Change Commission (CCC) said on Thursday.

According to the CCC, the LDF is a relevant move in ensuring that countries that are most affected by climate change can recover from its effects.

“As a nation that constantly faces climate-related disasters, the Philippines has championed and advocated the urgent establishment of robust mechanisms to prevent and reduce losses and damages,” the CCC said.

“The LDF is a vital step in mobilizing the much-needed support for nations most at risk of climate change to further bolster capacities to recover, rebuild, and transform better,” it added.

The Philippines was selected as the host in the LDF Board meeting on July 9.

Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Bahamas, Barbados, Eswatini, Togo, and Kenya also vied to be the host country.
