MANILA, Philippines — Only police and military personnel are allowed to buy night vision rifle scopes, according to the Philippine National Police.
Police Lt. Col. Eudisan Gultiano on Wednesday said the PNP released an advisory stating that accessories should be limited to law enforcement personnel, as these are yet to undergo evaluation by the firearms classification board of the Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO).
Gultiano made the reminder after reports of dealers selling these devices, with some even promoting its sale on their Facebook pages.
“The night vision rifle scopes are only intended for military and law enforcement use,” Gultiano said in Filipino during a press briefing in Camp Crame.

If the sale of the said equipment remains unrestricted, private armed groups might take hold of them, she said.
Gultiano also said that any night vision rifle scopes owned by civilians could be confiscated by authorities.
Dealers who were found selling this equipment to civilians would have their licenses revoked, she added.
While such accessories are restricted, civilians would soon be allowed to own semi-automatic rifles after minor amendments were made in the implementing rules and regulations of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. —Felice Nafarette, INQUIRER.net trainee
