MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported a slight increase in dengue cases on Monday, which also urged the public to intensify efforts to combat mosquito-borne disease.
After a period of stable numbers, dengue cases rose by approximately 10 percent from 5,547 in early May to 6,082 later that month and in early June. While preliminary data shows 4,689 cases from June 2 to June 15, health officials cautioned that the figure may increase due to delayed reporting.

205 deaths
Since January, the country has recorded 77,867 dengue cases and 205 deaths, marking a 15 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Five regions, including the National Capital Region and Central Visayas, did not see an uptick in cases.
Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, for his part, emphasized the importance of community action. “The rise in cases this year is still early and much can still be done,” he said as he called on local governments to lead search-and-destroy operations against mosquito-breeding grounds.
The DOH continues to promote its ‘4S’ strategy: Search and destroy breeding sites, Self-protection measures, Seeking early consultation, and Supporting targeted fogging in outbreak areas.
With the start of the rainy season, health officials also stressed the need for vigilance and collective action to prevent a more severe outbreak.
