MANILA, Philippines — The state seismology bureau said on Saturday that two phreatic events occurred at Taal Volcano.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the two events lasted briefly.

“The events produced steam-laden plumes that rose 800 meters above the Main Crater before drifting southwest based on IP camera monitors,” the Phivolcs said in its advisory.

The agency also reported that sulfur dioxide emissions averaged more than 6,570 tonnes per day on June 28.
It added that a magmatic eruption is unlikely to occur, based on its observations.
Currently, the volcano is at Alert Level 1, indicating that it is in a “low level of volcanic unrest.”
Phivolcs advised authorities to be prepared for any events that may be caused by the phreatic activities.
“Local government units are advised to continuously monitor and assess preparedness of their communities and undertake appropriate response measures to mitigate hazards that could be posed by long-term degassing and related phreatic activity,” it said in its advisory.
