MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said on Saturday that the country can only achieve progress if all sectors are united.

According to Marcos, this unity consisted in agreement of the goals of the country and its method of reaching those goals.

“[W]e must now come to that understanding, that we will only achieve the transformation that we dream about for the Philippines if we are united, if we agree, there is consensus among us and what needs to be done, how we are going to do it, and we all work together,” Marcos said.

The chief executive made the statement in his speech at the signing of an alliance between the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, which Marcos is the chairman of, and the National Unity Party Alliance.

Marcos Jr. added that the alliance was not a “marriage of convenience” but was centered on public service.

“But we organize ourselves– that’s not the marriage of convenience. It is an understanding that we must come together if we are to transform our country into the modern, safe, sustainable, growing country that we dream of, that we have all dreamed of in all our lifetime. Because at the heart of what we are doing is public service, and that is what we want to provide,” he added.
