In a statement on Thursday, CHEd announced that Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) and Bulacan State University (BulSu) had been authorized to offer this program starting in the academic year 2024-2025.

CHEd noted that BulSu is the first state university to provide medical education in Region 3 and the 22nd State University and College (SUC) to receive such approval from the commission.
Meanwhile, the DMMMSU is the third SUC to offer the Doctor of Medicine program in Region 1 and the 21st public medical school in the country.

“Now we can produce more doctors through our top SUCs, who will go to underserved areas, specifically in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas or in municipalities without government physicians in need of health personnel,” said CHED Secretary Popoy de Vera, as quoted in the statement.
Currently, only the Cordillera Administrative Region and CARAGA have no SUC that offers a medicine program.
