View of ‘rainbow sunset’ delights Metro Manila residents

MANILA, Philippines – Red sky could often be seen during sunset, and rainbows might appear after the rain in the right circumstances.

While each of these would be enough to amuse most skygazers, the combination of both makes for a spectacular view.

And this did not escape the attention of Metro Manila residents, who were greeted by the “rainbow sunset” on Wednesday evening.

A number of social media users shared photos of the picturesque view, which occurred after the rain shower in the metropolis.

Aldczar Aurelio, one of the specialists under the state weather bureau, said such a phenomenon happens from time to time.

“That’s normal, it happens not even during the rainy season,” Aurelio told INQUIRER.net over the phone on Thursday of the Wednesday appearance of “rainbow sunset.”

The National Geographic said the red rainbow, also called a monochrome rainbow, usually appears at sunrise or sunset. But circulating pictures in social media appear to show a polychromatic rainbow gracing the sky during sunset.

But it being an optical illusion, no two people ever see the same rainbow, so who knows?
