42 packs of suspected shabu found floating off Ilocos Sur

MANILA, Philippines —  Forty-two packs of suspected crystal meth, locally known as shabu, were found floating at sea in Ilocos Sur, according to police.

Authorities said 24 packs of suspected shabu were found off San Juan Bay, while 18 were discovered off Caoayan on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.

Police Regional Office 1 said two fishermen found the 24 packs of suspected shabu amounting to P162,649,540 approximately 29 kilometers from the shore of Barangay Solotsot.

On the other hand, the 18 packs were discovered at the territorial waters of Villamar at 10:29 a.m. by another fisherman who at first mistaken it for trash. When he opened the black sack, he saw packs of suspected shabu with “Chinese characters.”

The local police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the substance.
