MANILA, Philippines — Parts of Iloilo and Surigao del Sur were jolted by earthquakes on Tuesday morning, the state seismology bureau said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck the waters east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 6:35 a.m.
Phivolcs said the tectonic earthquake had a depth of focus of 42 kilometers (km) and was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Surigao del Sur in December 2023.
No damage or aftershocks are expected.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 4 earthquake was recorded east of Maasin, Iloilo at 9:50 a.m.
It had a depth of focus of 24 km.
It was felt at Instrumental Intensity 1 in Tapaz, Capiz, Phivolcs said.
Like the first earthquake, no damage or aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs added.
