MANILA, Philippines — BDO on Monday said withdrawals made under the account of Gleen Cañete were found to be valid. Cañete’ Facebook post went viral after saying some P345,000 was taken from his supposed passbook only savings account.
BDO was able to account for the withdrawals that “caused stress to Cañete.”
“All withdrawals done by the account holder online were verified to be valid. Mr. Cañete advised BDO that they will resolve matters within their family,” it said.
“BDO always looks after the security of its client and encourages them to maintain the privacy of their accounts,” the bank added.
In a video circulating on various social media platforms, Gleen Cañete revealed how the savings of his child, supposedly for college education, got wiped out.

“My child’s account was hacked; BDO said the account was successfully connected online, but this passbook has no online banking or card. It pains me that everything is gone; the hackers wiped out all P345,000,” Cañete narrated in tears.
“I’ve been saving this for years; I appeal to BDO; maybe you can find a way. I have no online banking, but what happened? Perhaps someone can help?” he asked.
Cañete said they reported what happened to the bank and waited seven days to get a response that it could no longer retrieve the lost amount.
“I don’t know what to do anymore; all gone, zero. Maybe you know someone in BDO, guys? Please help, please this is for my child’s college education this year,” he appealed the public.
Cañete has already deleted the post after the bank’s clarification.
