MANILA, Philippines — Free rides on public transport will be offered to seafarers on Tuesday, June 25, to celebrate the Day of the Filipino Seafarer, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.
In a joint advisory on Monday, the Maritime Industry Authority and the DOTr Railway Sector announced that free rides for seafarers on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 will be available from 5:30 a.m. until the end of its operation.
They can also ride the Light Rail Transit Line 2 for free from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

To avail of the free rides, seafarers should present their valid Seafarer’s Record Book, Seafarer’s Identity Document, or Seafarer’s Identification Booklet (SIB).

According to the International Maritime Organization, the Day of the Seafarer, celebrated on June 25, was established “to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy, and civil society as a whole.” — Felice Nafarrete, INQUIRER.net intern
