President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named ex-broadcast journalist Jose Edwiniel “Joee” Guilas as a member of his economic team.

The Presidential Communications Office announced the appointment of Guilas as Undersecretary of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs.

He will serve under Frederick Go, Mr. Marcos’ Special Assistant for Investment and Economic Affairs.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Guilas said he will serve as Undersecretary for Strategic Partnerships and Engagements of the Marcos administration.

“I always had it in my heart to serve the people through the government as a way of giving back to the taxpayers who gave me the means to finish my education. I am, after all, a product of the public school system,” he said.

Multisectoral experience

Prior to his appointment, Guilas was vice president and director of the Newport World Resorts, besides taking senior executive roles in several banks. He was also a former anchor of the People’s Television Network.

The President also named Greg Pua Jr. as executive director of the Land Transportation Office and Ermelita Valdeavilla as chairperson of the Philippine Commission on Women.
