DUMAGUETE CITY — Former Negros Oriental Gov. Pryde Henry Teves was released from police custody after posting bail amounting to P600,000 on Thursday afternoon.
Teves, a younger brother of expelled congressman Arnolfo Teves, surrendered to the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Negros Oriental on Thursday morning after the Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 74 issued an arrest order against him for allegedly financing a local terrorist organization.
The Department of Justice, however, said Teves was arrested for supposedly violating Republic Act 10168 or the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012.

Teves’ release order came after the ex-governor posted in court a total bail of P600,000 for three counts of violating Republic Act 10168.
His release order was issued and signed by Dumaguete City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Gerardo Paguia Jr. at 3 p.m., June 20.

Major Nazarino Emia, chief of CIDG in Negros Oriental, said they secured an arrest warrant against Teves from Cebu City RTC Branch 74 Judge Marlon Jay Moneva on Wednesday, June 19. However, they could not immediately locate the former governor.
Emia said they were surprised when Teves appeared at the CIDG headquarters in Negros Oriental on Thursday morning to surrender.
“So we served the arrest warrant. He, however, managed to immediately post bail in court that was why we released him,” Emia said.
