MANILA, Philippines — A scorching, dangerous heat index of 48°C is forecast in Aparri, Cagayan and Abucay, Bataan on Monday according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa reported that a total of 28 areas nationwide may likely reach a heat index of 42°C to 51°C, which falls under the “danger” category.
The state weather bureau said a heat index under the danger category may cause heat cramps and exhaustion, while heat stroke is possible with continued heat or sun exposure.
Dagupan City in Pangasinan, Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, and Casiguran in Aurora may experience 46°C heat index, Pagasa added.
The heat index in four other areas—Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City, Isabela State University in Isabela, Baler in Aurora, and Daet in Camarines Norte may reach 45°C.
On the other hand, three areas may hit 44 °C: Bacnotan in La Union, Calayan in Cagayan, and Iba in Zambales.
The heat index is forecast to reach 42°C to 43°C in the following areas:
