Solon says Ombudsman should look into sources of Corona’s ‘wealth’

MANILA, Philippines—Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales should look into the sources of Chief Justice Renato Corona’s alleged unexplained wealth, a lawmaker said on Thursday.

“Another glaring question is did they come from Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo?” Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares asked.

He said that if the defense was capable of debunking Morales’ report, then “they should have also subpoenaed the head of the Anti-Money Laundering Council or officers of the banks.”

“But they did not do so obviously the veracity of the accounts stand. As of now, it is very clear to the Filipino people that Corona has a lot of money not declared in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) and is way above his means.”
