MANILA, Philippines — Rain is expected to occur in the western sections of Visayas and Mindanao on Saturday, June 15, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

According to the state weather agency, areas in the two regions will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, locally termed habagat.

“More specifically, makakaranas tayo ngayong araw ng kalat-kalat na pag-ulan na may pagkulog at pagkidlat sa areas ng Occidental Mindoro, itong area ng Palawan, buong Western Visayas, buong Zamboanga Peninsula, at sa mga isla ng Sulu at ng Tawi-tawi,” Pagasa weather specialist Daniel Villamil said.

(More specifically, we will experience scattered rain showers with thunderstorms in areas of Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, the whole Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the islands of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.)

Meanwhile, other parts of the country, including Metro Manila, are anticipated to have generally fair weather despite chances of localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa said possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains, or during severe thunderstorms, may happen in affected areas, so residents were advised to take precautions.

In the next three to five days, Villamil said Mindanao will have reduced chances of rain as the southwest monsoon is expected to affect areas in Southern Luzon.

He also said that no gale warning was raised over the country’s seaboards for June 15.
