Elderly pedestrian dead in Quezon road mishap

LUCENA — A 74-year-old farmer died early Thursday, June 13, after a cargo truck bumped him at the Maharlika Highway in Calauag, Quezon.

The Quezon police said in a report that Elpidio Dayao was walking on the side of the road when a Hino Wing Van driven by an alias “Dolfo”, 39, hit him around 2:30 a.m. in Barangay Viñas.

Dayao, a resident of the village, died on the way to the hospital from fatal body injuries.

The police report said the bright headlights of an oncoming vehicle blinded the truck driver.

The driver stepped on the brakes but still hit the victim.

The suspect remains under police custody as the investigation continues.
