MANILA, Philippines—Guiuan in Eastern Samar is expected to have the highest heat index on Monday at 50°C, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.
In its latest bulletin, Pagasa said Guiuan and 23 other areas nationwide would likely hit a heat index of 42 to 51°C, which falls under the “danger” category. The state weather service explained that this level may cause heat cramps and exhaustion, while heat stroke is probable with continued heat or sun exposure.

Three areas, namely Aparri in Cagayan, Legazpi City in Albay, and Maasin in Southern Leyte, are forecast to have the second-highest heat index at 45°C.
On the other hand, the following areas may reach 44°C:
- Tuguegarao City Cagayan
- Casiguran, Aurora
- Virac, Catanduanes
- Masbate City, Masbate
Meanwhile, nine areas are expected to hit 43°C, while seven areas are under 42°C:
