PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — An elderly woman was found dead Wednesday after she was reportedly attacked by a crocodile in Bataraza town in Palawan province.

Her body was found at 1 p.m. floating near a bridge, just one kilometer away from where the incident occurred.

Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) spokesperson Jovic Fabello said when a team from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) went to the barangay on Thursday morning, they found out that the victim had been buried by her relatives.

Fabello said based on inquiries by the MDRRMO team, the victim had bite marks on her neck and left shoulder and on the left side of her body that was possibly from a crocodile.

He added that a team from PCSDS was supposed to go the barangay Thursday to also conduct an investigation but was delayed due to heavy rains in the town.

“So we just relied on the report of the MDRRMO (that it was a crocodile attack). It would have been better if we were able come to the area although we will no longer be able to see the victim because she was alreaddy buried,” he told the Inquirer in a phone interview.
