MANILA, Philippines — Two coconut farming cooperatives in the Bicol region received a P6 million livelihood assistance package from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the agency said on Thursday.
“Habang tayo ay patuloy na naglalakbay patungo sa layunin ng pag-angat ng kabuhayan ng ating mga magsasaka, mananatili tayong tapat sa ating adhikain na bigyan sila ng nararapat na suporta,” Labor Undersecretary Benjo Benavidezsaid in the awarding of the grants on Wednesday.
(While we are working to improve the livelihood of our farmers, we will remain faithful to our mission to give them the proper support.)
“Sama-sama nating buuin ang isang mas maliwanag na kinabukasan para sa ating mga komunidad sa agrikultura,” he added.
(Let us unite and form a brighter future for our agricultural communities.)
The DOLE said the grants will finance the Community-based Direct Copra Marketing project, which aims to support cooperatives that supply copra products to biodiesel plants.
The agency likewise discussed financial assistance for farmers affected by weather conditions and other similar projects for farmers in coconut production.
