MANILA, Philippines —  The index crime rate nationwide decreased to 12,937 cases from January to May 2024, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Tuesday.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said in a press conference that the country’s index crime volume from January 1 to May 17 this year was at 18.30 percent and 2,897 cases less than the 15,834 recorded crime incidents in the same period last year.

According to Fajardo, the decrease is attributed to the police’s strengthened anti-crime programs, which are being carried out with the help of other law enforcement agencies, force multipliers, and barangay watchmen.
