LIST: Miaa cancels flights due to Kanlaon eruption

MIAA cancels local flights due to the “volcanic activity of Mt. Kanlaon.”—MARIANNE BERMUDEZ

MANILA, Philippines—Local flights were canceled on Tuesday after the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Oriental had a phreatic eruption, said the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa).

According to the Miaa, flights have been grounded due to the “volcanic activity of Mt. Kanlaon.”

The phreatic eruption at Kanlaon occurred on Monday night at exactly 6:51 p.m.

It lasted six minutes and produced a plume that rose to 5,000 meters.

Currently, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology placed Kanlaon under Alert Level 2 and advised civil aviation authorities to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit.
