Bulacan city cops sacked over escape of 8 PDLs

CITY OF SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, BULACAN, Philippines — Eight detainees escaped from this city’s police station custodial facility on Sunday morning after breaking the metal window grills of the detention.

Police Col. Relly Arnedo, Bulacan police director, identified the escapees as Jeremy de Juan, 29; Richard Torillos, 46; Arturo Conde, 40; Aaron Capa; Jose Albert Rojas, 24; Jeffrey, 38; Glenmir Ian Aguilar, 42; and Edcel Briones, 29.

Six of the detainees were facing illegal drug charges, while De Juan and Briones faced robbery and arson charges, respectively.

A fellow detainee discovered the jailbreak and immediately alerted the duty policemen. De Juan, Briones, Aguilar and Conde were immediately recaptured.

Maj. Norweda Usman, Bulacan police information officer, said the two duty police personnel would face administrative charges for negligence.

City police chief Col. Edilmar Alviar said in a phone interview that the detainees removed the grills on top of a cemented wall, allowing them to escape jail. —Carmela Reyes-Estrope
