MANILA, Philippines — Actor and Quezon City 1st District Rep. Juan Carlos “Arjo” Atayde appealed to creative industry leaders and movers to obey the recently enacted “Eddie Garcia” law.
Atayde stressed the significance of the measure’s strict implementation in the protection of workers in the movie and TV industry.
“The Eddie Garcia Law will protect personnel in the creative industry and will ensure that local movie and TV sets are literally and figuratively ‘safe spaces’ where artists and crew members can work knowing their welfare is a priority,” the multi-awarded artist pointed out.

“It should be a team effort. Those in the creative industry should familiarize themselves with the law’s provisions… They should willingly follow the law because it is for the good of all,” Atayde added.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act 11996, or the Eddie Garcia Law, on May 28.
Aside from ensuring the safety of actors and other personnel in filming venues, the measure likewise mandates the creation of a Movie and Television Industry Tripartite Council that is tasked to consult with industry stakeholders on policy improvements, among others.
Violators of the law may face fines of up to P500,000, depending on the number of offenses.
