Pagasa: Fair weather in most of PH as cyclone, monsoon move away

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) says fair weather is expected to prevail over many areas nationwide on Friday, May 31, 2024, because a tropical depression spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility and the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” are moving away from the country. | Weather satellite photo from Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Favorable weather may be expected in most areas nationwide on Friday, May 31, as a tropical depression and the southwest monsoon move away from the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

A state weather agency’s specialist explained that the tropical depression spotted 955 kilometers west of northern Luzon and outside the Philippine area of responsibility is pulling the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” away from the country.

Pagasa’s Aldczar Aurelio said the tropical depression has wind speeds of 55 kilometers per hour and is going toward China.

“Ang pagkilos ng bagyong ito ay inaasahang patungo sa China samantala itong habagat o southwest monsoon ay unti-unting lumalayo sa ating bansa dahil hinahatak ng tropical depression,” said weather bureau’s expert.
