MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rain are expected to prevail in several parts of Luzon on Thursday due to the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Malaki ang tiyansa ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga kalat kalat na pag-ulan, pag-kidlat, pag-kulog partikular na dito sa may bahagi ng Ilocos Region, Bataan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro [at Palawan] dulot ng habagat,” said Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina.

(Due to the southwest monsoon, there is a high chance of cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly in parts of the Ilocos Region, Bataan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro [and Palawan.)

However, hot and humid weather is still expected over the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, with chances of isolated rain and thunderstorms.

Likewise, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast throughout Visayas and Mindanao.

Pagasa is currently monitoring no low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones within or outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

Meanwhile, Badrina said that one to two cyclones are expected to enter PAR in June.

“Pagdating ng Hunyo isa o dalawang bagyo ang inaasahan nating papasok o mabubuo sa loob ng PAR,” said Badrina.

(Come June, we expect one or two cyclones to enter or form within PAR.)

Pagasa said the temperature range in key cities and areas across the country for Thursday will be:

  • Metro Manila: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 17 to 24 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 25 to 36 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 23 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 26 to 34 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City: 26 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius
