MANILA, Philippines — The Indian community expressed “full support and solidarity” with businessman Manjinder “James” Kumar, whose name is being dragged in the controversies surrounding the allegedly leaked documents linking President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos to illegal drug use.
pikoIn an open letter dated May 25, the Gurdwara Gur Shabad Parkash claimed that Kumar is “innocent of any wrongdoing and deserves to be treated fairly and justly.”

“The character assassination he faces not only harms his reputation but also undermines the invaluable work he has done for our communities. We firmly stand behind Mr. Kumar, affirming his unwavering character and integrity and support in clearing his name to ensure that fairness prevails,” the letter read.
Former National Police Commission agent Eric “Pikoy” Santiago dragged Kumar and a certain “LAM” into the controversy.

Santiago mentioned their names in CCTV footage previously presented during the chamber’s hearing.
Santiago is apparently asking former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Jonathan Morales not to testify about the alleged PDEA leaks, citing possible dangers to his life.
However, Kumar denied the allegations, saying that he does not know Morales or the issue he is involved in.
In the letter, Gurdwara Gur Shabad Parkash said that Kumar has been an important part of their community and was also the founding president of the Filipino Indian Commerce and Welfare Society Inc. (FICWSI).
“Through FICWSI, Mr. Kumar has provided full scholarships to underprivileged students, enabling them to pursue their education and secure better futures. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he supported frontlines by providing essential supplies and protective equipment, ensuring their safety while they risked their lives for others,” it read.
“Mr. Kumar has been instrumental in providing aid during natural disasters. His quick response to the Talvol volcano eruption saw the distribution of food, water, and medical supplies to affected families. He also played a significant role in rebuilding efforts after Typhoon Yolanda, helping restore homes and communities devastated by the disaster,” it added.
“Character assassinations such as these not only harm the individuals targeted but also discourage others from engaging in philanthropic and community work,” it further said.
