Aghon moves away from Luzon; only two areas under Signal No. 1

MANILA, Philippines — The center of Aghon was estimated at 240 kilometers (km) east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora or 250 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (km/h) with gustiness of up to 170 km/h, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) 11 p.m. update.

To date, only Aurora and the eastern portion of Isabela remain under Signal No. 1, where 39 to 61 kilometers km/h wind speed, that causes minimal to minor threat to life and property, are expected.

Aghon will move generally northeastward over the Philippine Sea for the entirety of the forecast period and exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday afternoon or evening, still under the typhoon classification.

Five people were reported dead while seven were hurt due to the typhoon, according to the Office of Civil Defense.
